The HeraldNet is reporting union nurses and clinical workers at Providence- and Swedish-affiliated hospitals could strike over stalled contract negotiations. The announcement is expected Friday, January 3, 2020, after months of negotiations came to an impasse over raises and benefits for the workers. Swedish Health recently proposed a 5.5 percent raise by July, a contract ratification bonus of $750 per person but union SEIU Healthcare 1199NW officials said the offer fall short of expectations. Providence is negotiating with the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 21, which already authorized a strike in October 2019 over wages, staffing, and sick leave. The most recent talks have been through federal mediators to try and make progress. Negotiations have been active since April 2019.
