CNN reports that UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh confirmed on July 1, 2019 that it had 12 cases of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a drug-resistant staph infection, in its neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Six infants and six employees who have tested positive for MRSA are being treated. Hospital patients are more susceptible to MRSA due to their existing illness, having unhealed wounds or invasive medical devices.
