As reported in Patch Newark, The University Hospital has named Judith Persichilli, who most recently served as the monitor at the hospital, as the new president and chief executive officer. She succeeds John Kastanis, who officially resigned on December 14, 2018. Kastanis' departure comes after repeated calls for shakeups at the hospital, which had underperformed on several Leapfrog Group ratings and recently had three newborns contract and die from a bacterial infection. Persichilli will focus her immediate efforts on the hospital's 'ongoing patient safety and quality of care initiatives,' as well as regulatory requirements, employee safety and employee and community engagement.
