As reported in the Houston Chronicle, the investigation into UNC Hospital's pediatric cardiology unit after a New York Times story indicated higher than normal death rates has found no deficiencies. The NC Department of Health and Human Services issued a statement saying its agency and the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services both reviewed the hospital's Congenital Heart Program after the May 30th article was published citing recordings of the chief of pediatric surgery during a meeting saying the unit was in crisis. UNC's mortality rate data was released to the New York Times showing its rate was higher than other hospitals.
