The Fresno Bee reports the Fresno (CA) County region is seeing an increase in hospitalization of COVID-19 patients with a near or exceeding capacity in ICU units. The situation has escalated to the point where FEMA agreed to send eight, 20-member teams from the Department of Defense to assist the medical staff at the hospitals. The deployment of the team will last for 30 days and will focus mainly on intensive care services. Personnel includes doctors, nurses, ICU nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and other staff. Community Regional Medical Center and Kaweah Delta Medical Center received one team each on Thursday, July 16, 2020, to help offer relief for their medical staff. The Fresno Convention Center Exhibit Hall is designated as a 250-bed alternate care facility if the region needs an overflow location to treat patients.
