According to the Autoworker Newsletter, Nurses with United Auto Workers union at Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center ratified a new three-year contract with the hospital after voting to pass it with 83.9 percent in favor of those who cast a vote. The nurses held a six-week strike which began May 5, 2019, over forced overtime, pay, and staffing issues. Some reports indicated the UAW accepted a contract for support staff which excluded nurses who were continuing to strike. The first UAW contract was rejected by the nurses by 57 percent margin and the second contract was passed.
